Design principles are the guiding pillars of any project that help inform every design decision.
These principles might be validated by research, but having an early discussion with stakeholders from business, design, and development about what the product should do, creates a “north star” that helps keep designs on track.
Design principles are developed early on in a project’s life cycle. They give everyone involved in the project a clear direction and focus and keeps the team accountable to the mission of the project. Ultimately, design principles help everyone stay on course.
