Mayo Clinic Health Manager
Microsoft and Mayo Clinic partnered to create a new health care application. Fuzzy Math joined the team to help them understand who would use it, and how.
Workshops
We kicked off the project by getting in the same room as folks from Microsoft and Mayo Clinic and talking about the idea, their goals, and what they wanted to achieve.
We came away thinking that this was a great idea, and we were working with some smart people, but we needed to further define the product.
Personas
We started out by determining who it was we were building this for, as they would be the basis for nearly every decision to be made for the rest of the project.
Working with both teams, we created a set of personas that we would reference for the duration of the project.
Task matrix
At the same time we were creating the personas, we were also creating a master list of all the tasks that would be contained within the system.
We were not only narrowing down who was going to be using the system, but also what they were going to be doing. It was starting to come together.
Wireframes
We then moved into the design phase of the project, starting with wireframes. We iterated over each section of the site with the user and technology constraints in mind.
We played a juggling act at times between science and technology, but at the end of the day, the personas were used to come to a consensus.
Graphic design
Finally, a full brand and graphic design was created to really bring the application to life.
We again played a balancing act between two of the most well known brands in the country, but we think we would have made the Flying Wendellas proud with our final product.
Project overview
While Microsoft brought technology expertise and Mayo Clinic brought medical knowledge, they were still missing who they were building their new application for and how they were going to use it.
Working with teams from Microsoft and Mayo Clinic we went through the details of the typical tasks a user might perform with the tool and figured out exactly who the primary user was.
Keeping the personas and tasks matrix in mind the entire time, we created wireframes for each section of the site and finished everything off by creating the brand and look and feel for the application.
